We (Phil & Carol) have been letting Rookery Nook for about 12 years and have dozens of good reviews (available on another site and Google Reviews). Rookery Nook is attached to our home, and is the dominant building from the front of the property. We are usually on hand to assist guests, but believe in leaving guests to enjoy the property privately. Many of our guests return time and again…one from USA every year for the entire 12 years!
ROOKERY NOOK DISS: sleeps 2 in a spacious light and airy south facing single storey property. For a one bedroom property it feels particularly spacious and is Tardis like (so guests tell us). The garden and patio are completely private, and guests have their own allocated parking space, private gate and entrance.
Rookery Nook is ideally located for those who wish to explore East Anglia. Providing private entrance, lounge/dining room with patio doors onto patio & garden, fully equipped kitchen, double bedroom (king size bed or twin beds) and loo/shower room, driveway parking, garden with built in BBQ.
Situated on the edge of the pretty market town of Diss (15-20 minute walk to the centre). Many towns claim to be 'historic market towns', but there has been a market in the centre of Diss, for well over 500 years. The town was established around one of the deepest natural inland lakes in the country, known as Diss Mere and is 6 acres in size. The town centre comprises some excellent examples of Georgian and Edwardian buildings, the Mere and a number of thriving shopping streets, historic and quaint shopping yards. The market operates every Friday on the same day as the auctions of T.W.Gaze (as seen on several BBC antiques TV shows).
Right on the Norfolk/Suffolk borders, on a country lane on the very edge of Diss, Rookery Nook provides an excellent base from which to explore East Anglia. Relax in the south facing gardens if you’re looking for a chill out time, and perhaps use the BBQ and dine al fresco - so many guests enjoy the patio space if the weather is kind to them. Or if you feel like getting out and about there is lots to explore in the vicinity and further afield - from heritage coastline, historic cities, pretty market towns, riverside/country pubs and restaurants, tourist attractions, beautiful gardens, steam museums and of course the Norfolk Broads….so much to choose from. Diss itself is a pretty town with a huge lake (known as the Mere) with surrounding park - take a wander into town, explore the little yards, have lunch or tea and cake (we recommend Amandines in Norfolk Yard or The Waterfront with its decking looking over the Mere). Venture north to the North Norfolk coast for a day trip, or East towards the beautiful Suffolk coast (Southwold, Aldeburgh, Dunwich Heath for example). Or perhaps west(ish) to try some punting on the Cam at Cambridge, not forgetting south to lovely Bury StEdmunds or Constable country in the Dedham Vale. And for “Kiss me Quick” seaside fun there’s Great Yarmouth. It’s all easily do-able for days out from Rookery Nook.
PETS: We have welcomed many guests with pets, mainly dogs, but once a cat and a budge! Please be sure to read our pet policy which you can view on our bespoke website.

Will definitely stay there again
By Tara C on 22-Jul-2026Its a lovely quiet spot which is just what we needed. They had thought of everything and even left free eggs, biscuits and milk on arrival. Its such a cozy feel and very comfortable, we will definitely stay there again. Diss is very close by and has some lovely shops, and a great emporium. The pub has amazing views and menu too. We also visited Eye, which is a very quiet town but has a beautiful church and a norman castle ruin if that's your thing.

As ever - a lovely stay

My home from home
By Jane N on 11-May-2026My home from home! Thank you for everything, always love my stays. See you next year! (This guest has been staying every year from the US for the last 12 years)
Another wonderful stay
By Margaret & Pat on 16-Aug-2026We had another wonderful stay in this lovely “home from home” cottage to which we now return annually. Carol & Phil are excellent hosts and The Nook provides both peace and quiet for resting days and a great central one for day trips around Norfolk & Suffolk.
