Penny's Local Norfolk Tips for East view Cottage

Welcome to East View Cottage! Tucked away in the peaceful rural village of Trunch, you are in a wonderfully tranquil spot that is just a stone's throw from the spectacular North Norfolk coast. Here are my top three local insider tips for your stay:

Discover the Historic Heart of Trunch

You do not even need to start the car to find incredible local history and charm. Take a short morning stroll through the village to visit the magnificent St Botolph's Church, renowned for its spectacular 15th-century carved wooden font canopy. It is an absolute masterpiece of medieval craftsmanship and one of only four left in the whole of England! Once you have finished exploring, treat yourself to a hearty, home-cooked meal and a local ale at our wonderfully traditional village pub, The Crown Inn.

Spend a Day at Mundesley Beach

You are perfectly positioned just two miles inland from one of the finest stretches of the coastline. Pack your beach bags and head straight down to the award-winning Mundesley Beach. This is a beautifully traditional, family-friendly seaside resort featuring long expanses of soft golden sand backed by a raised promenade and rows of incredibly colourful wooden beach huts. It is completely patrolled by lifeguards in the summer, making it an incredibly safe and relaxing spot for a refreshing sea dip.

Explore the Clifftop Gardens and Maritime Museum

While you are visiting the coast at Mundesley, make sure you take a gentle walk up to the beautifully maintained coastal cliff gardens. Not only do they offer spectacular, sweeping panoramic views out over the North Sea, but they are also home to the fascinating Mundesley Maritime Museum. Housed in a historic former coastguard lookout, it is widely believed to be one of the smallest museums in the entire UK! It is entirely run by passionate local volunteers and is a fantastic little hidden gem to explore before grabbing some fresh coastal fish and chips.

Location:

Trunch is a small, friendly village full of history and character. The impressive 14th-century St Botolph’s Church (which you can see from the cottage) is well worth a visit – it’s known for its incredibly rare wooden font canopy. There’s also a local pub, and plenty of lovely walks nearby if you fancy stretching your legs.

You’re just a couple of miles from Mundesley, a charming seaside village with a lovely sandy beach, fish and chips, and a few good cafés. The pretty Victorian seaside town of Cromer is 8 miles down the coast with its famous pier. Holt, a very pretty Georgian market town, with lots of independent shops and eateries is well worth a trip and is a 30 minute drive.

A little further afield is the bustling market town of North Walsham – perfect for picking up supplies or exploring local shops. If you fancy a day out, the city of Norwich is around 40 minutes away with its castle, cathedral, great shopping, and loads of places to eat and drink.

East View Cottage is ideal if you’re looking for a peaceful break in a traditional Norfolk village, with the coast, countryside, and plenty to explore all nearby.
