Description
This secluded, semi-detached barn conversion adjoins the owner's 17th century home only one mile from Clunton, in the heart of Shropshire's beautiful Clun Valley. Set in a lovely hidden valley, off the beaten track, in a peaceful, rural location in the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This superb barn is surrounded by a mix of farmland, hills and glorious woodlands and is set in an area comprising of approximately two acres. It is accessed via its own private entrance at the end of a private lane, there are no other properties nearby. King Grove offers a retreat away from the hustle and bustle of life, great for city escapists and those wanting to enjoy the tranquil beauty and nature of the English countryside. King Grove enjoys dark skies with no light pollution, ideal for stargazers. Evenings are filled with the sounds of nature, such as owls, foxes, deer and badgers. Birdlife is abundant and the birdsong in spring is astounding.The barn retains some of its original character, as well as providing quality, contemporary accommodation throughout. It has a very well equipped modern kitchen with dining table, a spacious, comfortable and tasteful lounge with wood burner. Two good sized double bedrooms and a modern shower room with large shower. The south-facing lawned garden at the front of the property is shared with the owners, it also offers the exclusive use of a sunken, sunny patio which is accessed via steps. There are other seating areas (again accessed via steps) within the grounds for guest's use, perfect for relaxing with a drink and dining alfresco, whilst taking in the views of Stepple Knoll, after an exciting day exploring wonderful Shropshire.
There are excellent walks and cycle paths from the doorstep of this Shropshire property, with Offa's Dyke, the Shropshire Way and Jack Mytton Way close by, making it an idyllic location for walkers, cyclists and birdwatchers.
The enchanting wildlife site of Clunton Coppice is just a short stroll, as is Bury Ditches, an impressive Iron Age earthwork fort from which uninterrupted views can be enjoyed. The owners enjoy walking and cycling the local area themselves and are very pleased to help guests with suggestions. Horse riding is available locally and mountain bike hire can be organised locally too. Bishop's Castle with its excellent real ale pubs and restaurants is close by. Church Stretton, the Long Mynd and Shropshire Hills are to hand (by car). Acton Scott Historical Farm and Stokesay Castle make good local days out, with the renowned medieval towns of Ludlow and Shrewsbury within easy reach (by car). At the end of the day return to King Grove and simply relax in the beautiful surroundings.

The spotless cottage was very welcoming to walk into, full of polished wood, ornaments and pictures with a teapot, milk and biscuits all ready for us after a long journey. There is a great wood burning stove, comfortable sofas, cosy beds, and absolute peace and quiet. We slept so well! There was everything we could need in the cottage, including information on walks and a tempting collection of intriguing books. King Grove is set in a beautiful hidden valley in a wider area of stunning Shropshire landscape. We spent our days walking and visiting castles! Leena and Geoff live next door and they have designed their wonderful garden so that guests have plenty of private seating areas. They are very friendly and easy to communicate with. We can’t wait to return.

We loved the garden there, so imaginatively planted. There was so much to do in the area - a castle a day was our ambition and we made it!

By Howard on 01-Aug-2024This is a delightful cottage in peaceful surroundings. Leena and Geoff are very friendly hosts and have pretty much thought of everything you need in a cottage. The garden is also beautiful, with hidden locations to sit in and relax. It’s a great situation too for visiting places with Ironbridge, Ludlow and National Trust properties within easy reach. If you like walking, then Stiperstones, Long Mynd, Offa’s Dyke and the Clee Hills are all about 30 minutes away or less. In short, a great place to stay and highly recommended!
