Description
A very old, traditional Grade II listed cottage of character locally reputed to be the birthplace of Lord Darnley, husband of Mary Queen of Scots, it is situated in a tranquil hamlet on one of the lesser used roads within the Yorkshire Dales National Park. It is a most peaceful location - sheep and curlews are probably the greatest noise offenders -but is only 7 miles from Leyburn (all facilities) and 5 miles from Middleham (village shop, pubs and restaurants). The nearest pub, the community owned Forester's Arms, is 2 miles away in Carlton.The house is well equipped and comfortable with central heating and a solid fuel/wood burner. WiFi. The galley kitchen has an Everhot cooker, a microwave and a washing machine plus an adjoining pantry with a large fridge/freezer and a tumble dryer. The separate dining room seats six easily. In the sitting room the FreeSat TV has an inbuilt DVD player. Upstairs, along with the three bedrooms, there is a family bathroom plus an adjacent shower room with the w.c. Downstairs is another w.c. One bedroom can be prepared by prior arrangement as a single, twin or double. Also available a travel cot, though bedding for this is not provided. There is a secure walled front garden, a garage for one car (which gives access into the house) and parking for another. There are excellent walks, short or long, from the doorstep but with attractions and restaurants for you to discover both nearby and further afield. Or just relax in the garden and watch the world go by, albeit very slowly!

An exceptional holiday let and location

Snuggled away in the beautiful village of West Scrafton and located amongst only 34 other properties. The Manor House was originally built in the 16 c and steeped in history. The house has 3 large bedrooms beautifully decorated and tastefully furnished. Every room is furnished to reflect the style of the building. Juliet the property owner does everything to ensure that guests have a wonderful stay and no comfort is overlooked.

By Samuel mccormick on 23-May-2026Well what can I say ....simply unbelievable this cottage is a tardis inside..amazing..one of the best I have stayed in ....quirky spotless ...and the place is amazing garden is stunning....so peaceful if it's quietness and serenity you want this is it .....and even parked my car in garage peace of mind .....tranquil setting.....I will return again soon .....thanks for everything......

The cottage is set in the lovely village of West Scrafton in the Yorkshire Dales. There being only 34 other properties in the location. Friendly residents, beautiful walks and stunning views. The cottage has been beautifully furnished to reflect they age and quirkiness of the building. There are all the appliances that you would need for a comfortable stay and and more that one would expect. The bedrooms were beautifully designed... better than any exclusive hotel or B&B. You will certainly not be disappointed.
A comfortable cottage in an interesting area.
By Alan & Lynda on 12-Oct-2024We felt at-home straight away & settled in quickly. Being able to park in the garage, which led straight into the house, made unloading very convenient. Plenty of space , well-equipped & very cosy with the everhot oven. Interesting village, good for walkers.
Beautiful stay

It is a beautiful cottage in a wonderful location, it is well equipped, cosy and very family friendly. The owner is so helpful and friendly. I fully recommend this as a lovely place to stay and enjoy North Yorkshire.
