Description
Discover the best of both worlds! The peace and tranquility of a country house with riverside views but then only 15 minutes away you will find stunning beaches and the busy bustling fishing town of Whitby.Moles House situated in Egton Bridge, a perfect retreat overlooking the river between the North Yorkshire Moors and the Yorkshire Coast, providing a comfortable, relaxing break for large families or groups of friends. This quiet village with the River Esk running through it has two local pubs is just 8 miles from the historic seaside town of Whitby with its historic Abbey and the 199 steps, beautiful beaches and bustling harbour. There is a direct train service from Egton Bridge to Whitby for those who would prefer this type of relaxing, scenic journey. Just 4 miles in the other direction across the North York Moors you will find Goathland, also known as the fictional ‘Aidensfield’ on TV's long-running Heartbeat series. Enjoy a trip on the North Yorkshire Moors heritage steam railway at Grosmont which is 2 miles away. Permits for fishing are available enabling guests to take full advantage of this tranquil waterside location.
Leave your coats and boots in the spacious entrance and head into the main house. The lounge with comfy sofas and a wood burner has fantastic views over the river. Home to a Smart TV as well as games and books, all generations will find something to occupy themselves for chilled-out evenings. The spacious kitchen has all the equipment you could want including a small breakfast table for enjoying your morning coffee. It leads into the utility area where you will find a washing machine, fridge/freezer and microwave. From the kitchen, you can move through to the sunroom, a great space where good food, drink and conversation will flow easily around the large wooden table. The room is the perfect place to sit and take in the views and look out for the local birdlife, pheasants, rabbits or sheep, with lambs in spring. The kitchen is well equipped to rustle up some delicious meals or a picnic to take out for the day. The ground floor also boasts a contemporary shower room adjacent to a large twin bedroom, ideal for those who don't want to use the stairs or teenagers who would like a little bit of their own space. Stepping up to the first floor you will find three good-sized bedrooms, two king-size and one triple, all benefitting from far-reaching views. To complete the accommodation there is the contemporary family bathroom.
Outside, to the front, the terraced garden overlooks the river, the perfect place to sit with a glass of wine and watch the salmon jump. At the rear of the house is a secure patio area that overlooks the fields. Spend a relaxing time watching the birds visit the bird feeders in the garden or the animals in the fields beyond and breathe in the fresh country air. There is a charcoal BBQ you can enjoy on warmer days.
Opposite the house you will find two sets of stepping stones taking you across the river to The Horseshoe Inn which serves home cooked food, there are a further three pubs/restaurants within walking distance.

Moles House - wonderful!

There are so many homely touches -bath toys, books, games etc - and the cupboards are well stocked with crockery, utensils etc. There is so much room too! There is garden furniture both front and back and a large picnic table with benches, so we varied where we ate to follow the sun round. The front garden is very pretty and overlooks the river. The back garden is an enclosed courtyard so safe to leave children to play, and the said courtyard even has a shop/cafe for the children to play in - a great success with our 6 year old granddaughter. The sun room is also very handy (we ate in there if not outside).Having parking on your doorstep is a great help - we had 3 cars parked there and never once had a problem. Moles House is ideally located for everywhere! We certainly hope to return one day in the not too distant future.
A lovely place to stay
By Terri on 08-May-2026We had a wonderful stay at this holiday home. The house is lovely and really felt like a home away from home, with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The location is excellent, and the view from the front window is beautiful. One of the highlights was the convenience of the nearby train station, which is within walking distance. We were able to easily catch the train into Whitby, making it a great base for exploring the area. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would happily recommend this property to others looking for a relaxing getaway.
A fabulous place to stay
By Becky on 08-May-2026Second year visiting this wonderful place. The village is loverly, great views and a train ride away to whitby. Two loverly cozy pubs within a walking distance you can even cross the river on the stepping stones to reach one of them. The home is very spacious, clean and has everything you need. I would highly recommend this place. We will definitely be back.

This was a great place for our family holiday
By Mike Flockton on 23-May-2026This house is in a great location, ideal for walks and conveniently situated near two public houses. We were a family of nine and all the rooms were tastefully furnished and there were plenty of things to do for the grandchildren. The house has beautiful views over the River Esk at the front and the garden is superb with outdoor garden furniture to bask in the sunshine. It is an easy drive to Whitby, Runswick Bay, Robin Hoods Bay and the local area. The surrounding areas are spectacular and if you are into trains Grosmont and Goathland are nearby.

Fantastic place to stay

Moles House has everything you could ever need right down to tiny details A fantastic Place. We met Naomi the owner as we were leaving. Such a lovely person and nothing is too much trouble.
