Description
Railway Crossing Cottage is a charming detached stone cottage, situated in a peaceful rural location in The East Neuk of Fife, close to the villages of Crail and Anstruther. The cottage was originally a crossing keeper’s cottage on the now disused Anstruther to St. Andrews Railway. It has recently been beautifully and sensitively restored and extended by us, providing a cosy and warm holiday retreat for you, your family and friends. A perfect place to relax and unwind.There are 2 bedrooms at the property, a double room and a twin/double room, and a lovely characterful open plan sitting room and kitchen/dining area. The sitting area has a cosy log burner, wooden flooring and comfy leather sofas. The accommodation is very accessible, as it is all at ground floor level, with easy access to the garden via double patio doors.
There is a private hot tub on the decking area, with wonderful views to the surrounding countryside. The garden is mainly laid to lawn and is secure and fully fenced. There is a second sun terrace for relaxed dining, with a wooden table and chairs, sun loungers, sun parasol and barbeque. We have ample parking for 2 cars at the front of the cottage. The property is dog friendly and has the added benefit of free wi-fi.
Railway Crossing Cottage is a perfect location for exploring the quaint fishing villages of The East Neuk, the historic town of St. Andrews and the scenic coastline of Fife. The nearby villages of Crail and Anstruther are wonderful for exploring, with their picturesque fishing harbours, great shopping, pubs/restaurants and numerous tourist attractions. Boat trips from Anstruther to The Isle of May are most popular.

Cozy cottage
By Guest on 14-Aug-2026Just back off the beautiful coastal path this cottage was a nice quiet spot after busy days exploring golf, the nearby art festival and all around the nearby villages. During the busy tourist season the cottage was the perfect peaceful retreat! GPS brings you in a long farm road but there is a much shorter entrance road .

Absolutely perfect in every way
By Guest on 26-Jun-2026Katie and Ian are lovely hosts. My husband, our two dogs, and I spent seven nights at Railway Crossing Cottage, and we had a wonderful stay. The cottage is in a great location and is absolutely delightful. We were surprised to see glowing reviews in the visitors' book dating back to 2013, as the cottage feels as though it has only just been refurbished. The kitchen is very well equipped, and the beds and sofas are all extremely comfortable. Although we didn't use the hot tub, we enjoyed sitting out on the decking a couple of times. The enclosed garden is secure for dogs, beautifully maintained, and gave us complete peace of mind.

Lovely Stay
By Guest on 05-Jun-2026A lovely stay again at Railway Crossing Cottage. The cottage really suits us. Quiet & out of the way but close enough to all the facilities we need in St Andrews, Crail & Anstruther. We walked from the cottage to the Fife Coastal Path & completed another big section. Great to come back to this lovely cottage in its stunning location & immerse in the hot tub to relax.
