Description
Varis is a comfortable practical base from which you can explore the wealth that Skye and Lochalsh offers. Whether your interests are history, wildlife, culture or you simply want to immerse yourself in the sheer beauty of the area., you’ll find something to love. And we hope that means you’ll return year after year as many of our guests doThe house has 3 bedrooms, sleeping 6, which can be configured as two super-king doubles and one twin or one super-king double and two twin rooms to suit your requirements. We can in addition provide a travel cot, highchair etc if you wish to bring a little one. We use oversized duvets with pure cotton linens. Bedrooms have blackout lined curtains, ample storage space and hairdryers.
There is a spacious shower-room with near level access close to the bedrooms and a generous shower-room off the utility room, both refurbished in 2021.
The enormous sitting/dining room with its views across Loch Alsh to Skye, real fire and TV is the hub of the house. Breakfast or dine with the lovely views down Kylerhea, watching the marine traffic. Socialise around the.log fire on the two sofas and a comfy armchair - or use the Smart TV.
The Snug offers calm space if someone wants to get away : a big sofa, a chair, a TV and an opportunity to watch the birds.
We enjoy cooking using the wealth of local ingredients available and we’ve made sure Varis’s kitchen is well equipped with high quality appliances including a SMEG induction hob, double oven, fridge/freezer, microwave, dishwasher. With high quality knives, pans, and a range of cookbooks, guests can enjoy cooking. Or opt for the many excellent restaurants nearby.
The house is a great base for exploring. As kayakers, we understand the importance of good drying facilities. The utility room has a washing machine, a tumble dryer, and drying space with additional outdoor and indoor drying space available. A dehumidifier is available to speed up being ready for the next day’s adventure.
Outisde there is plenty of space to park. The south facing garden has chairs and tables and plenty of space. The garage has light and power and guests are welcome to use this for bikes, boats etc.
In season we prefer to let Saturday to Saturday. Shorter lets are sometimes available. But stay longer and enjoy everything the area has to offer.

Excellent value in a super location

By Guest on 09-Aug-2026This is a very quiet and comfortable house. The house is well insulated, and the aardwarmtepomp provides comfortable heating. It's an ideal place to stay when visiting the Isle of Skye. There's a supermarket nearby, and the surrounding area of Duirinish offers opportunities to watch Highland cattle. Plockton itself is also a beautiful tourist destination.
Varis - Ideal for Touring From

A lot of places not to far away, but managed Ullapool and Gairloch in a day. Some nice local walks from the property and in the Balmacara area. Do visit 'The Croft' cafe for great food.

A Perfect Dog-friendly Retreat
By Guest on 20-May-2026We had a tremendous week at Varis in early May. The weather was mixed as is to be expected, so hillwalking days were limited to the South Shiel Ridge and a couple of smaller hills near the cottage. The property is great for dogs with plenty of indoor space and a huge enclosed garden for them to run about daft in. There's also a good network of walking trails accessible from the garden gates in both directions. With a hotel nearby and a some really good food options (PizzaJo is excellent along at Ardelve, we didn't sample Jinty's Food truck at the Reraig campsite but it gets very good reviews). In summary, Varis is a great cottage in a really nice location with plenty of things to do. High recommended.
Another lovely week
By Guest on 18-May-2026Our 4th stay at this lovely home, just 2 of us, but it is very comfortable for us when we're a family of 6. Enjoyed some delicious food in Dornie, Plockton & the cafe at Kyle again, and some pleasant local walking. The house is a lovely peaceful spot to just sit & enjoy the birds in the garden & view across the Loch. No doubt we'll be back again.
