A Little Bit About Lajares, Fuerteventura, Spain
Lajares itself is a relaxed cosmopolitan village — with everything needed for a great holiday. It has a good supermarket, bakers, many restaurants and cafes generally within walking distance of the villa rentals seen here. If calm and peace is your thing then this is the perfect location. Perhaps the most telling thing is the number of visitors who return year-after-year — once hooked, Fuerteventura is will be your homeaway for life.Lajares is about a thirty minute car journey from the airport. It is at the centre of the arc of coastline to the north of the island — 6km to the east, the magnificent golden sands and dunes of the National Parque near Corralejo; and 6km to the west the delightfully long sandy beaches of EL Cotillo. Between the two, the north shore is simply kilometres of unspoilt shore line, with sandy beaches and lagoons loved by families, water sports enthusiasts and sun worshippers. Almost all the beaches away from the resorts welcome naturists and those who prefer to stay clothed with equal affection — even in the highest of seasons there is plenty of room.
Lajares is a delightful multi-cultural large village / small town — with plenty of shops, a supermarket, bakery and chemist, cafes, bars and restaurants, yet it is not in any way ‘touristy'. There is a good bus service but visitors should probably consider a car. If you are staying in Lajares it is an easy walk from just about anywhere into the centre.
The larger town of Corralejo is 15 minutes away — with a long high street with many top brands, and lots of restaurants and cafes to people watch. El Cotillo also 15 minutes with its two fishing harbours and lots of great restaurants. The rest of the island is easily accessible.
