Lucca is a city on the west coast of Italy featuring the Serchio river. It is in the Tuscany region and known best for the well-preserved Renaissance walls encircling its historic city center and its cobblestone streets. These walls extend some 4200 metres and really are a sight to see. Its possible to walk all the way around these walls enabling you to take in the magnificent views of the city with its stunning historical buildings and its many parks. The view from the top of the wall is quite spectacular.
The city of Lucca is very close to Pisa so it is very easy to combine your visit to see both places. Pisa is well worth a visit not just to see the leaning tower but its many churches. Lucca's history from the Roman era is prevalent as it served as a key meeting point for Caesar. It is also known as the city of a hundred churches with the cathedral being a place not to miss. In addition to the incredible architecture, such as the Duomo, Lucca also has some fantastic museums, bustling public squares and a good selection of restaurants and bars. Its quite easy to secure a self catering villa rental in Lucca to make it your HomeAway.
