Playa Blanca is located in the south of Lanzarote, originally a small fishing village, it now extends in both directions along the coastline. The famous Papagyo beach is just outside Playa Blanca, a natural golden beach reached from cliffs, approach with care. From Playa Blanca port, not only is there an hourly ferry service to Fuerteventura, but several trips and excursions, including the Glass Bottomed Boat, where you can see a whole host of different fish in their natural habitat. It prospered as a fishing village due to its port but the fishing industry has been taken over gradually by tourism.
The development of the resort has followed some of the earlier developments of other resorts on the island and as such has been very well done. It has retained a peaceful and tranquil environment whilst still providing many attractions and things to do for visitors. Its coast is made up of 3 relatively small and picturesque bays that come together to form one large 9km bay. The sheltered bays make it relatively safe for swimming and bathing. The port has developed into the up-market Marina Rubicon with some very nice cafes restaurants and boutique shopping. It also has a lovely little market.
Playa Blanca also has a water park with a lazy river, water slides, a wave pool and other entertaining activity for children. Alternatively, you could take time to visit the underwater art museum with sculptures 12 meters deep. You will be able to walk along its promenade taking in the spectacular views to Fuerteventura. There is a little night life but it is not the club scene that is evident in some of the other resorts.
Situated just 30km from Lanzarote airport makes Playa Blanca the ideal place to have a self catering villa holiday.
