The town of Bodmin sits on the southwest region of Cornwall. It boasts many attractions that are rich with history just waiting to be explored.
Bodmin Jail is famous for redefining prisons in the UK, being one of the first modern prisons to have individual cells in the 1770s, as well as paying prisoners for the work they did.

Bodmin Keep has a long history of military use during the first and second world wars as well as the cold war. It is still the county officer for The Rifles, the largest regiment in the army. It houses a museum that brings the Keep’s history to life.

The Bodmin Beacon stands out as a place that needs to be visited whilst visiting Bodmin. The large nature reserve, established in 1994, is home to the “Wildlife Wood” and “Beacon Wood” with Wildlife Wood being reserved for wildlife only, no people may enter, making it a truly natural area to exist. Beacon Wood still offers scenic adventures though.

The Gilbert Monument is the Beacon’s most famous attraction. Dedicated to General Sir Walter Raleigh Gilbert, an army officer in the British East India Company, which was a very high status position at the time.
