Overview
Description
Myrtle is a beautiful, warm and comfortable thatched cottage dating back more than 250 years. The semi detached cottage has beamed ceilings and cob walls. There is ample parking for cars and a boat if needed, with secure storage for bikes or kayaks. An EV charger is available on site. The cottage has its own delightful private garden with barbecue area and pagoda,. It is furnished with a mixture of antique and contemporary furniture whilst retaining its period charm. It boasts uninterrupted countryside views from the rear with magical sunrises.Set in an officially designated area of outstanding natural beauty there are many beautiful walks accessible from the cottage through National Trust woodland and along the south west coastal path. Of particular note are Frenchmans Creek, the Helfor River and Gillan Creek. There are coves, beaches and waterside pubs where each season brings its own gems. The best spring flowers are in May, mackerel in early summer, shrimping in August, wild mushrooms and shellfish for the picking in the autumn and the wild sea in winter. The local foot ferry from Helford gives access to the sub-tropical gardens of Trebah and Glendurgan. There are plenty of opportunities to take to the water. Within a mile both St Anthony and Helford have sailing, kayaking, paddle boarding and fishing boats for hire. A short drive takes you to some fabulous beaches at Kennack, Coverack, Gunwalloe, Poldhu and Kynance Cove. The reknowned ice cream farms of Gwella and Roskillys are both on nearby, and probably the best organic pasties and local vegetables can be found at Gear Farm.

Barbara and Maurice are the hosts you always want to meet
By Martin on 05-Jul-2026Barbara and Maurice are the hosts you always want to meet, everything is provided to make your stay at Myrtle Cottage a comfortable and pleasant experience. Its like staying at a friends house. A home made cake, eggs, milk and homemade jam were on site, along with all of the basics that make cooking convenient. The quirky galley kitchen is great, only room for one person! Highly recommended.
A wonderful warm and friendly welcome
By Jane Cowen on 19-May-2026A wonderful warm and friendly welcome. Thank for so much for welcome eggs, Jam and georgeous lemon drizzle cake. There are wonderful walks on the doorstep and good pub in Manaccan where we had best Sunday lunch ever. The house has everything you could need.
We had a lovely stay at Myrtle Cottage as a family of 4.
By Anna Norman on 03-May-2026We had a lovely stay at Myrtle Cottage as a family of 4. The cottage itself is charming and characterful with a thatched roof and beautiful garden overlooking open fields, and a table under a pergola for eating al fresco. It is on a quiet country lane with wonderful walks out of the door to Helford and Frenchman’s Creek, and within easy range of all that West Cornwall has to offer. The cosy living room has a wonderful library of fiction and the master bedroom handily provides a window seat reading nook. There is an honesty shop a couple of doors down for essentials, though Maurice and Barbara are such wonderful hosts you don’t much need it, providing fresh eggs from their hens, milk, homemade jam, homemade cake (as well as a thoughtful Easter egg!) on arrival as well as keeping us topped up with fresh cake throughout the week. All in all a wonderful stay, excellent value, delightful hosts - we would love to stay again.
