Padstow is a charming working fishing port surrounded by glorious sandy beaches, at the head of the Camel River. Watching the everyday ebb and flow of harbour life is a perfect way to spend a day. The Christmas Festival (early in December) involves the whole place in cooking demonstrations by famous chefs and a market for fabulous local specialities. ’Obby ’Oss Day (in May) has everyone processing round the town dressed in all manner of outlandish costumes. The ferry across the estuary opens up further beaches and restaurants in the fashionable village of Rock.
Within easy reach, of course, are many of the other attractions of Cornwall – the Eden Project, the Lost Gardens of Heligan, St Ives, Bodmin Moor, Tintagel, Lanhydrock House and the tin mines of Poldark Country.
