Description

A Devon cream tea welcomes you! Relax and unwind in this newly refurbished characterful cottage, situated in this quintessential Devon village. A short walk from Wonwell Beach and the stunning Erme Estuary, Kingston is a sought after village in the South Hams Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The village is a thriving community with a pub, church, recreation park and village hall, all within walking distance of the cottage. The neighbouring village of Ringmore (a 35 minute walk) has the Journey's End Inn, an award winning pub, offering real ale and excellent food.

Nearby is the magnificent South West coastline, offering fine coastal walks, beaches and coves, with sailing at Salcombe, Dartmouth, Totnes and Newton Ferrers, 18 hole golf courses are available at Thurlestone and Bigbury, and Dartmoor National Park is within easy reach to the North. Indoor and outdoor tennis is available at the local towns of Ivybridge and Kingsbridge with water sports facilities and lessons at Kingsbridge, Bigbury on Sea, Salcombe and Bantham, all within a 20 minute drive. .

The picturesque Georgian town of Modbury is only 3 miles away. Some two hundred years ago it was extremely prosperous being the local market town and a centre for the wool trade. Today there is a good range of local shops including a butcher, baker, grocers, hardware store, chemist, delicatessen and a number of gift and antique shops. The larger town of Kingsbridge, offering a greater and wider range of recreation and commercial facilities, is approximately 8 miles away.

Rambling Rose Cottage, is a semi detached period cottage with its own private secluded garden, full of interesting plants and trees. There is a patio with table/chairs and a brick-built barbecue. The entrance to the cottage is via a little footpath and stable door to a utility room with a washing machine, which leads through to the beamed dining room with original (ornamental) fireplace. Steps lead down to a newly fitted kitchen with integrated dishwasher, freezer and larder fridge and a glazed front porch providing access to the enclosed private garden. The pretty living room has a wood burner and Smart TV. The stairs from here lead to two bedrooms – a double room with a king sized bed and a twin room with additional guest bed. The twin beds may be zipped together to create a super king size bed if required. These rooms share a bathroom suite, with a shower over the bath.
The second set of stairs leads from the dining room to a double (5' bed) en suite bedroom with an old, polished wide planked floor and panelling made from local shipwreck timbers.

Quality linen, towels, electricity and heating costs are included, together with one nights supply of logs. Eco friendly cleaning products are provided for your use at the cottage, including dishwasher tablets. Tesco, Sainsbury and Waitrose deliver groceries to the cottage. Please feel free to arrange a delivery from 11am on the day of your arrival but please let me know in advance and I will arrange for frozen and fresh products to be put away for you. Private catering, baby sitting and dog walking is also available by arrangement. The cottage has a good broadband internet connection and private parking, within the grounds of the property. Additional parking or boat store is available at our own home a 15 minute walk away. Lockable storage is available for bikes and beach equipment. The area is incredibly dog friendly with our local beaches and pubs welcoming dogs throughout the year.
Please note, smoking is strictly forbidden in this property and the grounds.

A break away in Devon

By anna langridge on 18-Sep-2024

Had a lovely relaxing stay in Rambling Rose Cottage,Kingston Devon. Perfect parking place just outside the property and a very short walk to the front door.Very spacious property for us and our 2 dogs and an added bonus of a secure garden outside which had plenty of seating should you wish to sit outside and very private. Nice big porch/utility area which was perfect coming in from the rain and with dogs so was able to get them all dry and clean before entering the cottage and for storing our coats and shoes/boots ,very well set out and planned. we went to lots of beaches with the dogs and they were allowed on all of them and wonwell and burgh island were our favourites all locations very close by. 2 great fields for the dogs a short distance up from the cottage for the dogs morning walks before heading out were perfect bonus. If there were any negatives were the lanes around that area are extremley narrow ,we are use to lanes living in the country but these were much narrower and was an issue locating passing places sometimes so had to get use to doing a lot of reversing in light and dark,But thats devon for you.I didnt take some items as thought there would be enough at the cottage, there was only a tiny amount of cooking oil, washing up liquid,4 satchets of coffee,no kitchen role and that would have been helpful if there had been more I would have brought from home so had to go buy these. and maybe more than 1 teatowel would be good. we didnt sleep so good as for us the beds were just to firm and we ached terrible in the mornings as couldnt get comfy, but that maybe just us,they could be perfect for others, just didnt suit us. our dog did find some left over wrappers from previous people stuffed under the sofas so thats one to look out for,if its there he will find it. Overall, a super place to stay and lots of lovely places to visit and be able to take you dogs on holiday with you and go into everything with you ,which was a lovely change.I would recommend this cottage perfect for couples, familes with or without dogs.Thank you liz for a lovely stay.

Absolutely wonderful cottage in a beautiful location

By Karen Canty on 23-Aug-2024

Rambling Rose is an absolutely wonderful cottage - we had the most wonderful stay! There were 7 of us staying, two couples and three kids and there was more than enough room for all of us. The cottage was sparkling clean when we arrived and Jerry and Liz have thought about absolutely everything to really make it feel like a home from home. The kitchen is very well equipped, there were comprehensive instructions for absolutely everything and there were thoughtful little touches like a welcome hamper which made it feel special. It was great to have a washing machine and tumble dryer, the showers are good, beds were comfy and the kids had a triple room which was more than big enough for all of them. The village is picture perfect - the lanes getting there are very narrow and a bit hairy at times if you're not used to Devon, but that is exactly what you'd expect from the area and also Liz sent very helpful additional instructions directing us down less scary lanes! There are loads of beautiful places to visit and great restaurants nearby - the cottage instruction booklet had loads of good ideas, and Liz was more than happy to help with additional ideas and recommendations. The local pub is OK - not amazing food but perfectly decent for a casual meal if you have just done a 10k coastal walk (which we did and LOVED). A short drive in any direction will take you to all manner of beautiful beaches, villages and coastal walks. We particularly loved the local beach (1 mile walk), Dartmouth and Totnes.

Recommended for a lovely stay

By Karen and Peter Dewhirst on 09-Aug-2024

We really enjoyed our stay here. There were 3 generations of our family and we had plenty of room. The cottage was clean and, well equipped & cosy . There is one parking bay outside the cottage and although staying in August, we had no problem parking our 2nd car further down the lane. The garden was lovely with shady and sunny areas, great brick barbecue and my granddaughter says she loved the Swingball! We were 15 mins drive from Bigbury's beach, and there were plenty of things to do within a short drive. The welcome hamper was received gratefully after our long journey .We would return in a heartbeat.

Exceeded our expectations

Exceeded our expectations. What a wonderful cottage in which to have the first family holiday with my little grandson. Liz the host was fantastic, even calling in to check we’d settled in OK. We will definitely be back at Rambling Rose Cottage. Stylish, peaceful, beautifully decorated, strong WIFI (my sons insisted I point that out!), cream tea and lots of other complimentary goodies waiting for us on arrival in the large kitchen. An idyllic week in Devon.

Lovely cottage, ideal for a group as two staircases.
