Description
Sitting one mile off the coast of Jersey’s main town of St Helier, the Elizabeth Castle apartment is in one of Jersey’s most iconic locations and it is surrounded by the sea twice a day!The apartment, split over two levels, overlooks the parade ground and the Governor’s House at the Castle, where both Sir Walter Raleigh and King Charles II stayed. It has a recently refurbished kitchen and shower room on the lower level. The apartment sleeps up to six people, with a double sofa bed in the living area, and a spacious bedroom with one double and two single beds upstairs.
When the Castle is closed to the public, you can immerse yourself in its historic charm – climbing the battlements, exploring the turrets and bunkers, and swimming from the Castle’s private beach – please be aware that you may be sharing the grounds with guests residing at the Elizabeth Castle Retreat during your stay.
Cut off from the mainland by the tide at least twice a day, ferry transport is only available between spring and autumn, when the Castle is open as a visitor attraction. While it is possible to walk back and forth at low tide, no cars are permitted to drive across the beach to the Castle.
If you would like to book, we strongly suggest speaking to our team first so we can advise you on the tides during your stay and the times it is best to access the apartment. If you are visiting from outside of the Island, we suggest planning your travel arrangements around the tide to ensure swift passage back to shore.

What a stay!
By Philip on 24-Mar-2025If you want a unique historical immersion in a most wonderful location to explore that is separated from the main land by tides this is for you! The accommodation is steeped in history yet wonderfully clean, warm and secure. A perfect cosy location to get away from any of the weather should it be inclement. Chris the Castle Guardian gave us a wonderful engaging and fascinating tour of the castle, there is nothing he did not know and his enthusiasm shone right through making it the highlight of our stay. A gem in the crown of what Jersey has to offer. You MUST book this for a most magical local adventure!
A fantastic stay in a unique location
By Guest from Chippenham on 14-May-2025We spent 6 nights at the castle and loved every minute of it. The accommodation is of a very high standard and in a truly unique location. Yes, it’s necessary to plan carefully for the tides and availability of ferries, but that is such a small price to pay for having the relaxation of being removed from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The teams at the castle and in charge of the ferries are all so friendly and helpful- they really add to the whole experience!
Holiday on a private island castle
By Adam on 27-Aug-2025When the last ferry leaves, you have your own private 24 acre castle, complete with nazi bunker, hermitage, deep sea harbour and a series of private beaches. The flat is great and has everything you need, but it isn’t the flat you came for. The staff are great and ferry crew are great fun. Breakfast on the battery, picnic on the parade ground and make like Walter Raleigh for the weekend. We did.
A magical getaway
By Paul on 18-Oct-2025As a family of three, we found the Elizabeth Castle Apartment to be the perfect accommodation for our holiday. The flat was clean, comfortable and attractive, with a well equipped kithcn. But what makes the apartment incredibly special is the location. Staying in the castle on a tidal island was an fantastic experience that surpassed our expectations. In the early mornings and the evenings when the castle was closed, we loved wandering around the island or sitting outside with a cup of tea watching the sea. It was incredibly peaceful. Everyone from Jersey Heritage was extremely friendly and helpful, sharing useful local information. It was such a positive experience and I highly recommend it.
