Description

We are located in the small pretty village of La Bastide de Bousignac, very close to the stunning medieval market town of Mirepoix in Ariege, France. Mirepoix is a 5 minute car journey away, with its renowned Monday morning market in the main square and, along with a large supermarket, a great selection of shops and restaurants. Events take place all year round in the main square, so it's worth checking with the Mirepoix Tourist Office to see what's happening during your stay. (www.tourisme-mirepoix.com)

Mirepoix is ideally situated offering easy access to Toulouse, Castelnaudary and the World Heritage Site of Carcassonne. The local countryside is peppered with Cathar Castles such as Montsegur and picturesque villages dating back to Medieval times. The Canal du Midi is 30 minutes away and you can reach the Mediterranean coast at Narbonne in about 90 minutes. Within fifteen minutes of the house is the stunning Lac Montbel where you can relax by the water or hire a boat for an hour or two. We also have an international go-karting track about ten minutes drive away. During the Winter months the small Pyrenean resort of Les Monts D'Olmes is only 45 minutes by car.

There are many local events throughout the Summer, including evening food markets and themed weekends in Mirepoix.

The house itself is finished in a clean, modern style, offering five bedrooms which can sleep up to ten people (3 double rooms, 1 bunk room and 1 twin bedded room). There are three bathrooms (One has a shower and the other two have baths with separate showers). Downstairs there is a fully equipped large kitchen / dining room which seats 10 with all the usual appliances you would expect, together with a utility area with washing machine etc and a downstairs loo. There is a separate large comfortable sitting room which has French windows opening out onto the garden.

The second half of the garden is securely gated and has the pool area, as shown on the photos. The 9 x 4.5 metre pool has a salt water system which is very gentle on the skin compared with traditional chlorine, and uses solar heating to keep it nice and warm (sun permitting...). There is a ledge at 1 metre the whole way round, ideal for children. Sun loungers are provided and the table can be extended to accommodate up to 10 guests. There is outdoor lighting and a pool light so you can enjoy the long warm evenings outside.

All linen is provided and there is a washing machine for your use during your stay.

We think that it is Ideal for families – we have owned the house for 16 years and both our boys (now 13 & 15) have grown up (on holiday) here. Please note that we are located in a quiet village with immediate neighbours, so if you are looking for somewhere to party outside until the early hours this may not be the right place for you. It's probably also worth mentioning that our neighbour keeps a couple of geese and a few chickens in part of her garden, just in case this is an issue for you.

Changeover day is normally Monday, but we will endeavour to be flexible wherever possible. Checkout by 10 am and arrival from 4pm. The closest airports are Carcassonne (45 mins) or Toulouse (1 hr 15 mins) and we consider the drive from Carcassonne Airport to be the most picturesque 'airport run' we have ever encountered.

Please note that this is a strictly non-smoking property.

We welcome any questions via email or phone and we will always do our best to reply as quickly as possible.

A beautiful house!

By ND on 31-Aug-2021

We stayed in this lovely house for 10 days at the beginning of September with our three children who are 16, 14 and 6. The house is beautiful. It is a lovely traditional French house but it has been modernised with lots of lovely touches. The kitchen has everything you could possibly need and the washing machine and dryer are very useful. There is plenty of things for the kids to keep them occupied including the table tennis table, table football, loads of board games, books, a Wii and a good selection of DVDs for all ages! And that was just for the rainy days! Obviously the pool was the main attraction and it’s lovely too! A perfect size and safe for smaller kids. There were lots of pool toys inflatables etc for the kids to play and sun loungers for the adults. The pool also had a dining area covered in wisteria providing a nice shade from the sun but which also lit up beautifully at night time. The village the house is located in is very small but the bigger town of Mirepoix is only a few minutes drive. Mirepoix is a beautiful medieval town with a large square in the middle. There are lots of restaurants to choose from as well as a few nice shops and bakeries. The market on a Monday is well worth a visit! There are lots of lovely towns nearby and the scenery around every corner is so French! All in all we couldn’t recommend this house and the surrounding areas highly enough! Richard the owner was extremely helpful and nothing was a problem. We also had a welcome pack waiting for us when we arrived which was a lovely touch. If you’re looking for a very traditional French holiday in a beautiful house and picturesque surroundings this is the place to go!

What a find!

By Simon on 14-Aug-2021

We found this brilliant house, a last minute decision after mandatory quarantine restrictions returning from France were lifted, and decided to take the Eurotunnel and drive to get away and to avoid flying. Over the years I must have rented at least 30 properties in various countries but Richard, the owner, was easily the most helpful and responsive I have had the pleasure of dealing with and following the Simply Owners booking methodology was simple and quick. As for the house itself, positioned so close to the beautiful, vibrant mediaeval city of Mirepoix, it is certainly the most well equipped of any of the houses we have stayed in; there was literally nothing, no utensil, piece of equipment, or facility that we couldn't find and it has been sympathetically renovated to provide excellent accommodation even for large families. The bathrooms would be the envy of most 5 star hotels and the spacious kitchen is a cooks dream, once you master the ceramic hob! The secluded pool was likewise in great condition and a balmy 27 degrees when we were there late August. As a base for exploring the Lauragais region it is perfect, with both the majesty of the Pyrenees and the course and towns of the languid Canal du Midi within easy reach. Don't miss a visit to Castelnaudary with its beautiful canal basin and nearby little hill town of Saint-Félix-Lauragais for its square and magnificent views over the surrounding countryside. As a place to get away to, La Bastide is simply lovely and an ideal way of disconnecting from the world for a while. The 4G signal is pretty good and if you really need WiFi then a 5 day pass from SFR is only €15. The true test of whether somewhere has ticked all of the boxes is to us simply, would we go again. The answer would be a resounding yes!

Highly recommended vacation house

By Mike F on 02-Aug-2020

We stayed here in August and truly loved the house. It is very spacious, very clean and has everything you could need. The garden is large with the pool at the back of the garden. It is in a quiet village but this did not bother us at all. Mirepoix is 5 minutes drive and has restaurants, supermarkets etc. There is a lot to do around the area. I had several exchanges with the owners and they were extremely friendly and helpful. They couldn’t have done anymore in preparation for our vacation. Highly recommended and we will hopefully be back one day.
