We are located in the small pretty village of La Bastide de Bousignac, very close to the stunning medieval market town of Mirepoix in Ariege, France. The village has its own bakery - ideal for your morning croissants and offering a great mixture of breads and patisserie. The historic town of Mirepoix is a 5 minute car journey away, with its renowned Monday morning market in the main square and, along with a large supermarket, a great selection of shops and restaurants. Events take place all year round in the main square, so it's worth checking with the Mirepoix Tourist Office to see what's happening during your stay. (www.tourisme-mirepoix.com)
Mirepoix is ideally situated offering easy access to Toulouse, Castelnaudary and the World Heritage Site of Carcassonne. The local countryside is peppered with Cathar Castles such as Montsegur and picturesque villages dating back to Medieval times. The Canal du Midi is 30 minutes away and you can reach the Mediterranean coast at Narbonne in about 90 minutes. Within fifteen minutes of the house is the stunning Lac Montbel where you can relax by the water or hire a boat for an hour or two. We also have an international go-karting track about ten minutes away. During the Winter months the small Pyrenean resort of Les Monts D'Olmes is only 45 minutes by car.
There are many local events throughout the Summer, including evening food markets and themed weekends in Mirepoix.
The house itself is finished in a clean, modern style, offering five bedrooms which can sleep up to ten people (3 double rooms, 1 bunk room and 1 twin bedded room). There are three bathrooms (One has a shower and the other two have baths with separate showers). Downstairs there is a fully equipped large kitchen / dining room which seats 10 with all the usual appliances you would expect, together with a utility area with washing machine etc and a downstairs loo. There is a separate large comfortable sitting room which has French windows opening out into the garden.
The second half of the garden is securely gated and has the pool area, as shown on the photos. The pool has a salt water system which is very gentle on the skin compared with traditional chlorine, and uses solar heating to keep it nice and warm (sun permitting...). Sun loungers are provided and the table can be extended to accommodate up to 10 guests. There is outdoor lighting and a pool light so you can enjoy the long warm evenings outside.
All linen is provided and there is a washing machine for your use during your stay.
We think that it is Ideal for families – we have owned the house for 13 years and both our boys (now 10 & 12) have grown up (on holiday) here. Please note that we are located in a quiet village with immediate neighbours, so if you are looking for somewhere to party outside until the early hours this may not be the right place for you. It's probably also worth mentioning that our neighbour keeps a couple of geese and a few chickens in part of her garden, just in case this is an issue for you.
Changeover day is normally Friday, but we will endeavour to be flexible wherever possible. Checkout by 10 am and arrival from 4pm. The closest airports are Carcassonne (45 mins) or Toulouse (1 hr 15 mins) and we consider the drive from Carcassonne Airport to be the most picturesque 'airport run' we have ever encountered.
Please note that this is a non-smoking property.
We welcome any questions via email or phone and we will always do our best to reply as quickly as possible.

A group of us stayed at this House in early July to enjoy some cycling in the foothills of the Pyrenees. The cycling was ideal with a combination of flat roads, local hills and stunning countryside and scenery. You can cycle towards the mountains on main roads or on the back roads through the trees (cooler...) We drove to Montferrier and climbed up the mountain road towards Les Mont D'Olmes, taking in a spectacular view of the famous Chateau Montsegur along the way. There were different levels of difficulty to suit all of our party, most of whom could probably do with being a bit fitter....
With regard to the house, it was a great place to come back to for either a refreshing swim or a leisurely shower, depending on the weather. We all thought that It was very spacious and well presented. Everything we needed was provided and we had the reassurance of knowing that the housekeeper was only a couple of minutes away should we have needed any help. All the rooms were clean, well furnished and comfortable and the kitchen table was perfect for the seven of us to sit around and compare notes on the days activities over the cheese which we bought from a wonderful shop in the centre of Mirepoix.
If you're looking for a comfortable House in a 'real' French village with a bakery which you can walk to, then this place might be ideal. Highly recommend!
Really Enjoyed Our Time Here.

We loved staying at this beautiful House and highly recommend it. It’s very spacious, tastefully furnished and very well equipped for families. The pool area is great with plenty of shade if required and when the kids weren’t in the pool they loved the ping pong table! We enjoyed our morning walk to the bakery and had some lovely bike rides too. The village is quaint and peaceful and Mirepoix was a very quick drive away with a good selection of restaurants and shops and a fantastic market. We look forward to going back one day!

The perfect place for a family holiday: a spacious and well-equipped House with plenty of living space, bedrooms and (large) bathrooms; a safe, enclosed garden and swimming pool; a bakery within walking distance; a thriving market town just a few minutes’ drive away and plenty of things to do nearby. Our children loved the pool and the table football while we enjoyed sampling the local produce under the shade of the pergola. We would not hesitate to recommend it to people with a young family looking to enjoy this lovely region of France.

Would Definitely Go Back

Many thanks for a lovely stay – we had such a great time! Fantastic outside pool and dining area, the children spent ages swimming while we relaxed with a drink! We loved the cosy House (comfortable sofas – that you don’t always find!), wood-burning stove, kitchen and utility were well-equipped. Plenty of space upstairs with modern bathrooms. Tasty croissants from bakery round the corner, quick drive to supermarket, and plenty to see and do in the region. Would definitely go back.
Looking Forward To Going Back.

My family and I have stayed at this property on several occasions and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. The property itself is set in a beautifully quiet village. The garden is delightful. There is a grassed area with a locked gate into the pool area which has a pretty vine covered pergola, offering shade and seating during the heat of the day. The locked gate to the pool was great because we knew our children couldn't access the pool alone. It is an extremely spacious and comfortable property with everything you need to enjoy a family holiday. We must also mention the village bakery which is just a short stroll away and sells delicious breads and croissants for breakfast. We can't wait to go back!
